Hamilton & Lafayette

Our Inspiring Heroes

A friendship that changed history

In Yorktown in 1781, Hamilton & Lafayette celebrated the victory of liberty against tyranny by sharing barrels of rum with American soldiers and singing throughout the night to celebrate their friendship and achievements.

ALEXANDER HAMILTON

Hamilton was born in 1755 on the island of Nevis, about 140 miles southeast of St Croix. Before he achieved Revolutionary glory and became a founding father, he was an orphan struggling to survive on the island of St. Croix. His childhood informed his entire life, shaping his views on government, economics, slavery and more.

MARQUIS DE LAFAYETTE, GILBERT DU MOTIER

Simply known in the United States as Lafayette,  he was a French aristocrat and military officer who fought in the American Revolutionary war commanding American troops in several battles, including the Siege of Yorktown in 1781. After returning to France, he was a key figure in the French Revolution of 1789. Lafayette remains today, the most beloved French hero of the American Revolution.
